This term Commonwealth is applied to governments which are considered as free or popular, but rarely, or improperly, to an absolute government. The word signifies, strictly the common well-being or happiness; and hence, a form of government in which the general welfare is regarded rather than the welfare of any class. The English noun Commonwealth initially comes from the fifteenth century. The actual phrase being "common wealth" or "the common weal", which originates from the ancient meaning of "wealth which is `well-being", the expression factually meant "common well-being". The Commonwealth of Virginia is a state in the Southern United States. Virginia is named after Queen Elizabeth I of England, who was known as the Virgin Queen.Thinking of moving? Have to relocate?
